Intergenerational Trauma Healing and Therapy

You're not alone in this, and your story doesn't have to repeat itself.

Your healing, and the healing of the generations before and after you, is our priority.

Are you ready to understand the patterns you've inherited, process the pain that was never yours to carry, and break the cycle for yourself and the ones who come after you? Our intergenerational trauma healing therapy offers you a compassionate, culturally-attuned space to begin healing generational trauma at its root.

Wanting to Break the Cycle for Your Children

You are becoming (or already are) a parent, and you're afraid of unintentionally passing down the same pain, silence, or coping patterns that were passed down to you.

What Is Intergenerational Trauma Healing?

Intergenerational trauma therapy, sometimes called ancestral trauma therapy, is a specialized form of therapy designed to help you understand, process, and heal the emotional wounds, coping patterns, and relational wounds that have been passed down through your family and often across multiple generations. This can include trauma rooted in migration and displacement, colonization, racism, poverty, addiction, abuse, or family estrangement, even when you didn't experience the original event yourself.

It involves working with a trained therapist who specializes in guiding you through a process of self-discovery, insight, and nervous-system-informed healing. The goal of intergenerational trauma treatment is to identify where these inherited patterns show up in your life today, and to give you the tools to begin breaking the cycle of generational trauma so it doesn't get passed on to the next generation.

Intergenerational Trauma Treatment for Breaking Generational Trauma

Intergenerational trauma treatment is suitable for individuals at any stage of understanding their family history, whether you're just starting to notice a pattern or you've been doing this work for years. The process typically involves a series of sessions where your therapist helps you explore your family and cultural history, process stored trauma in a safe and paced way, and build a new relationship with yourself, your family, and your identity. The ultimate aim is intergenerational trauma healing and helping you feel more whole, more grounded, and more free to write a different story.

You Might Be Here Because You're Struggling With Ancestral Trauma

Repeating Family Patterns

You keep noticing the same painful patterns in your relationships, your parenting, and how you cope, patterns you saw growing up and swore you'd never repeat.

Anxiety, Hypervigilance, or Emotional Numbness

You feel on edge, over-responsible, or disconnected from your emotions in ways that don't seem to match your current life, and may trace back further than your own experience.

Difficulty Trusting or Connecting

You find it hard to feel safe in close relationships, to ask for help, or to let people in, even when you want closeness.

Struggles with Identity, Culture, or Belonging

You feel caught between cultures, generations, or expectations, carrying pressure, guilt, or grief tied to your family's history, migration story, or cultural identity.

Wanting to Break the Cycle for Your Children

You are becoming (or already are) a parent, and you're afraid of unintentionally passing down the same pain, silence, or coping patterns that were passed down to you.

Our Approach to Breaking the Cycle of Generational Trauma

Healing happens through a combination of attachment-based therapy, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), and Brainspotting, tailored to your history and pace.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting was developed by Dr. David Grand as a brain-body based approach to trauma processing. It works from the premise that where you look affects how you feel, using specific eye positions to access parts of the brain where trauma and unprocessed emotion are stored, often below the level of conscious awareness.

Brainspotting is particularly effective for intergenerational and ancestral trauma because so much of what gets inherited across generations lives in the body and nervous system, not just in memory or story. Rather than needing to fully narrate what happened, Brainspotting allows the brain and body to process and release stored trauma at its own pace, in a safe and supported way. Alongside attachment-based and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) approaches, this work helps you regulate your nervous system, understand the origins of your patterns, and build new, healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

I specialize in supporting BIPOC individuals, interracial and intercultural relationships, and first- or second-generation immigrants navigating the impact of migration, cultural expectations, and inherited trauma, including intergenerational trauma in East Asian families. As a first-generation Asian therapist, I bring both clinical training and lived understanding to this work.
